In Elden Ring, paintings are puzzles that reward the Tarnished who seek its painter’s location. Some paintings reveal intimate secrets in the Lands Between and the prophecy you’re yet to fulfill. Will you seek them all?

The Homing Instinct Painting (East Limgrave)
The “Homing Instinct” painting depicts the Minor Erdtree in Weeping Peninsula. The painter invites you to explore the region south of Limgrave.
The paintings also hint at you to reach the Church of Pilgrimage where you can learn something about the Walking Mausoleums.
If you’ve already obtained the Mixed Physick bottle from the Third Church of Marika, you’ll find more Crystal Tears when you go to the Minor Erdtree at the heart of the Weeping Peninsula.
Quick Route to the Artist’s Shack, Limgrave
You can find the “Homing Instinct” Painting inside an Artist’s Shack in East Limgrave. Fast travel to the Murkwater Coast site of grace. If you don’t have it, fast travel to the Agheel Lake North site of grace instead.
Head northeast with Torrent and past a camp of Kaiden Sellswords. The Murkwater Coast site of grace is near the coliseum ruins stuck between cliffs. Open your map. Put a beacon on the dark brown spot located on the other side.
From the Murkwater Coast site of Grace, there are two paths you can take:
- Double jumping with Torrent towards the vertical side of the coliseum ruins.
- Jumping from a cliff near a Spirit Spring to the other side where the Lesser Runebears are.
Head towards the Artist’s Shack. Examine the “Homing Instinct” painting inside to activate the puzzle.
Solution: The “Homing Instinct” Painter’s Location
You can find the artist of the “Homing Instinct” Painting at a spot near the Seaside Ruins site of grace, which is south of the Dragon-Burnt Ruins in Agheel Lake in West Limgrave.
Head towards the western broken pillars. Beware of the Giant Bats patrolling near the large stones. The “Homing Instinct” painter is on a chair near a small graveyard past the second large stone.
Reward: Incantation Scarab
When in range, the “Homing Instinct” painter will leave you with an Incantation Scarab. It’s a Helm piece that reduces your FP consumption by 10% when using Incantation spells. However, it increases the amount of damage you take by 5%.
The Prophecy Painting (West Limgrave)
The “Prophecy” painting depicts the Stormveil Castle in the West Limgrave region. The painter invites you to thoroughly explore the castle and to defeat Godrick the Grafted. After all, there’s a way to entirely skip it.
Defeating the demigod marks your journey to fulfilling the prophecy. You’ll be more welcomed to the Roundtable Hold because you’re the Tarnished who will become the Elden Lord. Something Torrent has believed right from the very start.
Quick Route From the Liftside Chamber Site of Grace
You can find the Prophecy Painting in a room located west of the guarded courtyard in Stormveil Castle of West Limgrave. You must defeat Margit, The Fell Omen guarding the Castleward Tunnel to reach the area.
Fast travel to the Liftside Chamber site of grace in Stormveil Castle. If you don’t have it yet, find your way down into the courtyard from the Rampart Tower site of grace.
Beware of the Castle Guards, Zombie Dog, and Omen nearby. Run towards the room. Examine the Prophecy Painting to activate the puzzle.
Solution: The “Prophecy” Painter’s Location
You can find the artist of the “Prophecy” Painting on a spot behind the Church of Pilgrimage. It’s located on the northwest side of the Weeping Peninsula. Fast travel to the Church of Pilgrimage site of grace, if you have it already.
Otherwise, fast travel to the South of the Lookout Tower site of grace, west of a pond where Zombie Dogs gather. Cross the bridge and head straight for the Church of Pilgrimage. Go to the east side of the church to find the “Prophecy” painter close to the edge of the cliff near a broken pillar.
Reward: Warhawk Ashes
When in range, the “Prophecy” painter will leave you with Warhawk Ashes. It’s a Spirit Summon that can help you fight Humanoid enemies and ones that are weak to fire. It has decent survivability, damage, and Bleed build-up. A great companion to a bird-lover Tarnished.
The Resurrection Painting (Liurnia of the Lakes)
While “Resurrection” Painting depicts the Raya Lucaria Academy, it actually hints at the life story of Ranni the Witch, daughter of Rennala (Head of the Raya Lucaria Academy) and Radagon.
The painter invites you to thoroughly explore the academy, the practice of sorcery, and the southern Minor Erdtree of Liurnia of the Lakes.
Quick Route to the Artist’s Shack, Liurnia
You can find the “Resurrection” Painting in an Artist’s Shack slightly north of East Liurnia of the Lakes. Fast travel to the Gate Town Bridge. If you don’t have it, fast travel to the nearest site of grace and head straight for the eastern broken bridge.
Turn left. Go uphill with Torrent. Beware of Wolf packs dwelling in the area. Beyond the coliseum ruins, you can spot the Artist’s Shack on top of the hill. Examine the “Resurrection” Painting to activate the puzzle.
Solution: The “Resurrection” Painter’s Location
You can find the artist of the “Resurrection” Painting in a massive graveyard east of Caria Manor in North Liurnia of the Lakes. Fast travel to Behind Caria Manor site of grace.
If you don’t have it, fast travel to the Royal Moongazing Grounds site of grace instead. Otherwise, you’ll have to defeat Royal Knight Loretta’s hologram.
From Behind Caria Manor site of grace, jump on the rocks near the walls. Explore the massive graveyard with Torrent. Head straight for the large horizontal rock slope, south of the graveyard. Beware of the Albinaurics and Skeletal Militiamen. The “Resurrection” painter is located just behind the slope.
Reward: Juvenile Scholar Set and Larval Tears
When in range, the “Resurrection” painter will leave you with the Juvenile Scholar Set and Larval Tear. The Juvenile Scholar Set is composed of the following pieces:
- Juvenile Scholar Cap – A lightweight Helm piece that provides magical defense.
- Juvenile Scholar Robe – A lightweight Chest piece that provides physical and magical defense.
The Larval Tear allows you to respec or change the distribution of your stats. You’ll have to defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, in Raya Lucaria Academy to use it.
The Redmane Painting (Caelid)
The “Redmane” Painting depicts the barren land, where the rot-inflicted Starscourage Radahn is cursed to wander, and the Redmane Castle a little beyond it.
The painter invites you to explore the Redmane Castle and to have a taste of the gravitational power the mighty demigod of Caelid holds.
Quick Route to Sellia, Town of Sorcery
You can find the “Redmane” Painting in Sellia, Town of Sorcery located northwest of the Swamp of Aeonia in Caelid. Fast travel to Sellia Under-Stair site of grace.
But if you don’t have it yet, go to the Dragon-Burnt Ruins in the Agheel Lake of West Limgrave. Find the Teleport Trap in an underground Chamber guarded by Wondering Nobles, Rotten Strays, and Giant Rats.
You’ll be teleported and trapped in the Sellia Crystal Tunnel of Caelid. Once inside, turn left and keep going down until you find a site of grace. Get out of the tunnel. Call on Torrent and stick to your left to find the Sellia Under-Stair site of grace.
From the Sellia Under-Stair site of grace, climb up the stairs. Beware of the disappearing Sorcerers and Avionette Soldiers lurking around. Turn right.
Before the arching pillar, notice a thick branch to your left and large crystals to your right. Turn left to find the “Redmane” Painting stuck under the ruins of Sellia. Examine it to activate the puzzle.
Solution: The “Redmane” Painter’s Location
You can find the artist of the “Redmane” Painting on a plateau just below the cliffs of the eastern Minor Erdtree of Caelid. fast travel to Fort Faroth site of Grace.
If you’re yet to activate it, fast travel to the nearest site of grace. Or find the waygate hidden by the bushes northeast of the Third Church of Marika in East Limgrave. You’ll be teleported to the Bestial Sanctum in the Dragonbarrow subregion of Caelid.
From the Fort Faroth site of grace, head north towards the east Minor Erdtree. Use the Spirit Spring with Torrent to get down safely. Go towards a large stone pot with broken pieces by the cliff.
Go behind the large pot. Seek a gap. There’s a large branch below that you can double jump down to with Torrent. Get off Torrent and follow the branch to the other side.
Carefully jump down to the branch below. Keep walking. Now, climb a little on the left branch facing the right branch.
Remember: Don’t jump, just fall down the right branch. Position yourself a little closer to a small branch. Now, fall down to the left side of the broken pillar below.
Position yourself on the other edge of the broken pillar. Again, don’t jump. Fall down to the ledge below. Call Torrent to land safely on the other pillar. Below, there’s a large branch you can jump down to with Torrent. Slowly make your way to the left branch. Jump to the broken large pot below or to the ground.
Beware of the Golem resting on the right side of the plateau. You don’t have to defeat him. Go to the edge across the broken large pot to find the “Redmane” painter.
Reward: Ash of War: Rain of Arrows
When in range, the “Redmane” painter will leave you with the Ash of War: Rain of Arrows. You can equip it to your Weapons and Shields. It gives you the skill to shower your enemies (within range) with multiple arrows from the sky. It’s very handy when farming crafting materials from wildlife creatures.
The Champion’s Song Painting (Altus Plateau)
The “Champion’s Song” Painting depicts Mt. Gelmir behind the Sainted Hero’s Grave. The painter invites you to explore the outskirts of the Altus Plateau.
The reward of the painting puzzle hints at the type of combat you’ll have to use to defeat a powerful demigod hidden deep in the depths of Mt. Gelmir.
Quick Route from the Shaded Ramparts
You can find the “Champion’s Song” Painting along the east rampart of The Shaded Castle in Altus Plateau. Fast travel to the Shaded Castle Ramparts site of grace. But if you haven’t been there, you can start from the Erdtree-Gazing Hill site of grace instead.
From the Shaded Castle Ramparts site of grace, head down the stairs and turn left. Beware of a Depraved Perfumer patrolling the ramparts. Keep walking until you notice a rooftop on your left.
Head down the rock slope. Beware of the Slugs and the poisonous swamp. Quickly make your way to the stairs of the wooden structure. Examine the “Champion’s Song Painting” to activate the puzzle.
Solution: The “Champion’s Song” Painter’s Location
You can find the artist of the “Champion’s Song” Painting on a cliff, east of the Sainted Hero’s Grave in Altus Plateau. Fast travel to Rampartside Path site of grace.
If you don’t have that, go to the Sainted Hero’s Grave site of grace instead. Or find your way to the northwest gate of Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Make your way towards the cliff. Beware of Ancient Dragon Lansseax. To avoid alerting the ancient dragon, stick to the edge on the left side once you reach the top of the cliff. You’ll find the “Champion’s Song painter” near a large rock.
Reward: Harp Bow
When in range, the “Champion’s Song” Painter’s ghost will leave you with a Harp Bow. It’s a lightweight Bow that scales with Strength and Dexterity. It has a Weapon Skill: Barrage, which allows you to fire successive arrows at your enemies. You need to use Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade it. Arguably the best Light Bow in Elden Ring.
The Flightless Bird Painting (Leyndell, Royal Capital)
The “Flightless Bird” Painting depicts the Erdtree in Leyndell, Royal Capital in the Altus Plateau. The painter invites you to thoroughly explore the area, and hints at the following:
- The life story of the unchosen Morgott, the Omen King.
- A cardinal sin you’ll commit as an inevitable part of the prophecy.
Quick Route to the Fortified Manor, First Floor
You can find the “Flightless Bird” Painting in the Fortified Manor, First Floor located within Leyndell, Royal Capital. Fast travel to the Fortified Manor, First Floor site of grace, the painting is within the same room.
If you don’t have the grace activated, go to the West Capital Rampart site of grace instead. Find your way to the Fortified Manor.
Head straight for the doorway near the balcony on the right side. You’ll find the room there. Examine the Flightless Bird Painting to activate the puzzle.
Note: If you’ve already burned the Erdtree, you no longer have access to the area.
Solution: The “Flightless Bird” Painter’s Location
You can find the artist of the “Flightless Bird” Painting within the Windmill Village north of Altus Plateau. Fast Travel to Windmill Heights site of grace, which means you’ve defeated Godskin Noble in the area. If not, you can start from the Windmill Village site of grace instead.
If you’re yet to reach the Windmill Village, you can use a waygate on the edge of the Forest-Spanning Greatbridge. It’s located south of the Minor Erdtree in Altus Plateau. You’ll get teleported to the northern part of the broken bridge, which is a safer route to the village.
From the Windmill Heights site of grace, go down the hill to find Celebrants dancing near a shack on the left side. You’ll find the “Flightless Bird” painter on a cliff beside the shack.
Reward: Fire’s Deadly Sin
When in range, the “Flightless Bird” painter will leave you with the Fire’s Deadly Sin incantation. It’s a body buff that requires 19 Faith and used 26 FP. It inflicts fire damage, specifically 6 damage every 0.5 seconds within the dagger’s range.
It’s recommended to use the following list to get up to 16 damage per tick:
- Golden Vow Incantation
- Fire Scorpion Charm Talisman
- Flame-Shrouding Cracked Tear
Note: The Flame, Grant Me Strength, and Fire’s Deadly Sin can’t be used together. One body buff cancels out the other.
The Sorcerer Painting (Mountaintops of the Giants)
The “Sorcerer” Painting seems to have a focus on the Moon that’s ever-present on the Mountaintops of the Giants region. But it actually hints you to find your way into the Heretical Rise, which hides a legendary Sorcery spell that only highly-skilled sorcerers can cast.
Quick Route from the Castle Sol Main Gate
You can find the “Sorcerer” Painting in a building within Castle Sol. Fast travel to the Castle Sol Main Gate site of grace. Beware of the Lion Guardians patrolling the entrance. Take the left path and climb the stairs beyond the barracks. Go inside a Slug-infested room and climb the ladder.
Find a wooden ledge where a Castle Guard standing by. Turn left. Beware of a Castle Guard firing explosive arrows ahead of the rampart. Turn left. Unfortunately, there’s another Castle Guard firing explosive arrows on top of the building. Quickly cross the wooden bridge and climb up the stairs towards the rooftop.
Find an opening on the ground on the right side of the area. Climb down the ladder to find the “Sorcerer’s Painting” in the room below. Examine it to activate the puzzle.
Solution: The “Sorcerer” Painter’s Location
You can find the artist of the “Sorcerer” Painting on the western bridge before the Stargazer’s Ruins. Start from the Castle Sol Main Gate site of grace. Go to the edge of the cliff with Torrent. Instead of taking the clear path uphill, where the Death Rite Bird is waiting, jump upwards on the stones behind the graveyard.
Now repeat the same method to avoid the Giant Skeletons lurking in the mountains. Again, head straight for the edge. Notice the bushes on top of the stones. Make your way up with Torrent.
Go to the bridge. Don’t worry, you’re out of the Giant Skeleton’s range. Now jump down to the first ledge on the left side, where you’ll find the “Sorcerer” painter pointing at the scenery.
Reward: Greathood
When in range, the “Sorcerer” painter will leave you with the Greathood. It’s a large Helm piece that covers your face entirely. It also increases your Intelligence and Faith by 2 while decreasing your HP by around 10%. Although it’s not part of any set, you can get creative with it.
