Key Takeaway

The Cell Phone in Terraria is made up of the following:

  • GPS
  • Magic/Ice Mirror
  • R.E.K 3000
  • Fish Finder
  • Goblin Tech

Once you have all of the above, combine them at a Tinkerer’s Workshop crafting station.

The Terraria Cell Phone displays helpful information like the weather, time, depth, nearby ore, and rare mobs, and even immediately teleports you home with the click of a button! It does, however, require several rare crafting materials.

Terraria Cell Phone Crafting Tree Breakdown

Like in real life, your Cell Phone in Terraria should be your most prized possession. After all, it’s incredibly time-consuming to make, with a lengthy crafting tree. All the pain and sweat will be worth it when you can teleport back to the comfort of your home with ease! If only real phones could do that.

Making the Cell Phone requires 13 base devices, so get ready to spend a lot of time grinding mobs, sitting at a workbench, and waiting for the Traveling Merchant.

    GPS

A Gold/Platinum Watch, Compass, and Depth Meter—all required to make the GPS.

Your first port of call should be the GPS; it only requires a Gold/Platinum Watch, a Depth Meter, and a Compass. Combine all three tools at the Tinkerer’s Workshop to make the GPS.

A Gold or Platinum Watch is made from ten Gold or Platinum Bars and a Chain combined at a Table or Chair. The Depth Meter has a 1% drop chance from most Bats in the game.  The Compass has a 1-2% drop rate from Salamanders, Crawdads, Giant Shellys, Snow Flinxes, and Undead Vikings.

    Fish Finder

The crafting materials for the Fish Finder consists of the Fisherman's Pocket Guide, Sextant, and Weather Radio.

You’ll have to try your hand at some fishing for this next component. The Fish Finder is made from the Fisherman’s Pocket Guide, Weather Radio, and Sextant. All of these items are potential rewards from completing Angler’s Quests—each with a 33.3% chance. To make things easier, if you have more than one copy of an item (like two Weather Radios), you can throw the spare one into a pool of Shimmer to transmute it into a Fisherman’s Pocket Guide!

Sooner or later, you should finally have your Fisherman’s Pocket Guide, Sextant, and Weather Radio and be able to craft the Fish Finder at your trusty Tinkerer’s Workshop!

    Goblin Tech

The tools used to make the Goblin Tech consist of the Metal Detector, Stopwatch, and DPS Meter.

To craft the Goblin Tech, you’ll need a DPS Meter, Stopwatch, and Metal Detector. The first two are available from the Traveling Merchant for five gold each.

As for the Metal Detector, it only drops from Nymphs in the Cavern layer. Luckily, these have a 50% drop rate in Normal mode and 100% in Expert mode, so you should get one in no time at all!

Once you have all three of these tools, combine them at the Tinkerer’s Workshop to craft the Goblin Tech.

    R.E.K 3000

The Tally Counter, Lifeform Analyzer, and Radar required to make the R.E.K 3000 for the Cell Phone.

To make the R.E.K 3000, you’ll need the Radar, Tally Counter, and Lifeform Analyzer. The only way to get the Radar is in Surface Chests or by fishing up Wooden or Pearlwood Chests. The Lifeform Analyzer is available from the Traveling Merchant for five gold.

Patience is a virtue—the Tally Counter only has a 1% drop rate from Curse Skulls, Angry Bones, and Dark Casters, all found in the Dungeon. After gathering these materials, you can craft the R.E.K 3000 at the Tinkerer’s Workshop.

    Ice/Magic Mirror

Finally, the Magic Mirror (or Ice Mirror) crafting component allows your Cell Phone to teleport you to your Spawn Point. The Magic Mirror is commonly found in Chests in the Underground or Cavern layers and can easily be obtained pre-Hardmode.

Its frozen counterpart, the Ice Mirror, is inside Frozen Chests in the Ice Biome.

    Note
If you’re playing on a Journey character in Journey mode, your character will, in fact, spawn with a Magic Mirror.

How to Get a Tinkerer’s Workshop

To get the Tinkerer’s Workshop, you must unlock the Goblin Tinkerer NPC, which is done after defeating a Goblin Army. Like the Blood Moon, the Goblin Army is a wave-style enemy invasion event. The Goblin Invasion can also randomly spawn at any dawn if the player has at least 200 Health and destroyed one Shadow Orb/Crimson Heart.

    Tip
If you don’t want to wait for the event to spawn naturally, you can manually summon the event using a Goblin Battle Standard

Once you have defeated the Goblin Army, the Goblin Tinkerer can randomly spawn in open areas in the Cavern layer. He must be released from his bonds by the player before he can move into a free room within your house the following day. The Tinkerer’s Workshop will be available from him for ten gold.

    Crafting the Cell Phone

At last, you can finally make your Cell Phone! Make sure you have the required items in your inventory. Then, stand next to your Tinkerer’s Workshop and craft the PDA with the GPS, Fish Finder, Goblin Tech, and R.E.K 3000.

Once you’ve created that, merge the PDA with the Ice/Magic Mirror and you’ll finally have your Cell Phone!

With your shiny new Cell Phone, you can finally say, “New phone, who ‘dis?.”  If you’re up to the challenge, why not try crafting the Zenith or getting some sweet new armor set to match your new tech?
