Key Takeaway

To unlock the “Two Thumbs Up” achievement in Stardew Valley, all you have to do is watch a movie at the Movie Theater. This can be done alone, with an NPC, or with a friend in co-op.

The Movie Theater is unlocked in two ways, depending on whether you completed the Community Center or went down to Joja route.

  1. By completing The Missing bundle in the Abandoned JojaMart (Community Center route)
  2. By paying Morris 500,000G to build the Movie Theater on the Joja Warehouse

Earning in-game achievements is a great way to flex your gamer muscles and record monumental feats throughout a title. The Stardew Valley 1.6 update has introduced a lengthy list of achievements to unlock, one of which is titled “Two Thumbs Up,” involving the Pelican Town Movie Theater.

Getting the "Two Thumbs Up" achievement in Stardew Valley.

To earn the “Two Thumbs Up” achievement in Stardew Valley, watch any movie at the Movie Theater. You can do this by watching a movie alone, with friends in co-op, or with an NPC of your choice. If you watch the movie with a friend (a player or NPC), you must buy them a ticket. You can watch a movie once every seven days.

Luckily, Movie Tickets only cost 1,000G from the Movie Theater box office at the front of the building. To watch a movie with an NPC, interact with them while holding the Ticket, similar to how you would present them with a gift. They will meet you at the Movie Theater on the same day you go in.

    Warning
If you miss going to the Movie Theater that day, the Ticket will be forgotten and you’ll have to try again another day with a new Ticket.

All Movies You Can Watch in the Stardew Valley Movie Theater

There are eight available movies you can watch in the Movie Theater of Stardew Valley. You can get the “Two Thumbs Up” Stardew Valley achievement by watching any of them—no matter the day or season. These films vary from season to season, and you can see the current movie rotation on a poster to the left of the entrance. You can also find the movie playing next month here.

Although not essential to the achievement, all of Stardew Valley‘s residents have movies they “Love”, “Like,” and “Dislike.” This is similar to the gifts you can give them. A “Loved” movie will grant 200 Friendship Points, a Liked is 100 Friendship Points, and a Disliked movie neither earn nor costs Friendship Points.

Here’s a list of all eight films, the season and year they appear in, as well as which NPCs Love, Like, and Dislike them.

These movies repeat on a two-year cycle, based on the year in which the Movie Theater is first unlocked. For example, all four “Year 1” movies will play the first year the Movie Theater is unlocked, followed by Year 2 movies the following year, and then cycles back to Year 1.

How to Unlock the Movie Theater

The Abandoned Jojamart before completing The Missing bundle.

To unlock the Movie Theater and add some extra fun to Pelican Town, you must have completed all of the Community Center bundles or paid Morris for all of JojaMart’s Community Upgrades. If you walk down the Joja route, you’ll have to pay a whopping 500,000G to construct the Movie Theater.

If you chose the Community Center route, you’ll have to complete “The Missing” bundle, located inside the abandoned JojaMart. Here are all the items in The Missing bundle—you only need five of the six items.

    • Silver or better quality Wine: By using Wine on a Cask and leaving it for 14 days
    • Dinosaur Mayonnaise: Use Dinosaur Eggs on a Mayonnaise Machine
    • Prismatic Shard: Rarely found inside the Mines
    • 5 Gold-quality Ancient Fruit: Plant Ancient Seeds in the Greenhouse or on tilled soil during Spring, Summer, or Fall. Takes 28 days to yield an Ancient Fruit.
    • Gold or Iridium quality Void Salmon: Fished from the Witch’s Swamp
    • Caviar: A product of using Sturgeon Roe on a Preserves Jar

Once you’ve got the required items or paid the required sum, the Movie Theater will be built the following day!

With or without the “Two Thumbs Up” achievement, the Movie Theater is a great way to quickly boost friendships with Pelican Town’s residents. To get more bang for your buck, try taking an NPC out for a movie date on their birthday!
