What You Need to Make a Glass Bottle
The recipe for making Glass Bottles is pretty simple. You will only need 3 Glass blocks. Arrange the 3 Glass blocks on the slots of a Crafting Table as you would for making a Bucket out of Iron Ingots. That is to say, Make a “V” shape with the Glass. This will give you 3 Glass Bottles, which can be useful tools.
How to Make Glass
Glass is made from putting blocks of Sand (or Red Sand) into a Furnace. Essentially, you would be cooking it like how you would cook food items. For every 1 block of Sand cooked in a Furnace, you will get 1 block of Glass. It should be mentioned that you can use Glass to make a ton of other cool items–particularly decorative blocks.
Getting Glass Bottles Without Crafting
While you’re fishing, you can sometimes reel in a Water Bottle instead of a fish. The odds are only about 1%, but it’s a nice side effect of fishing. If you drink the water in the Water Bottle, you will get a Glass Bottle.
It is also possible for you to get Glass Bottles as drops from defeating Witches. There is a 12.5% chance that a Witch will drop up to 2 Glass Bottles if they are slain. Interestingly, if you take down a Witch while they’re trying to drink a potion, there is an 8.5% chance for that potion to drop as an item.
You can reclaim Glass Bottles from other kinds of bottles containing consumables. For example, if you drink the honey from a Honey Bottle, you will get the Glass Bottle that was housing the honey. The same is true for all drinkable potions.

You can use Glass Bottles to interact with many kinds of fluids. These are mostly liquids, but at least 1 is a magical gas. After doing so, you can store these fluids to use for other purposes, like potion-making. Or, alternatively, you can use them on yourself immediately as consumables. Most of the time, when you use a Glass Bottle, you’re going to be using it while it is in your hand as opposed to using it in crafting recipes. However, this will vary depending on what fluids you are working with.
Using Glass Bottles With Water
The most common function of using a Glass Bottle is to contain some water with it. This is a crucial step in making potions with a Brewing Stand. You can also fill up a Cauldron by using a Glass Bottle in the same way that you could use a Bucket. Furthermore, you can also empty the water out of a Cauldron in the same way. Each time you take some water out of a Cauldron with a Glass Bottle, the Cauldron’s water level will decrease by 33%.
Using Glass Bottles With Potions
Glass Bottles can also store potions of all kinds. Making a potion at a Brewing Stand will always give you a potion in a Glass Bottle. If it is a drinkable potion, when it is consumed, you will get the Glass Bottle back.
If there is a batch of potions in a Cauldron, you can also use a Glass Bottle to take some out. Similar to how this mechanic works with water, each time you take some potion out of a Cauldron with a Glass Bottle, it will lower the Cauldron’s volume by 33%. Keep in mind that if your throw a Splash Potion of some kind, the Glass Bottle will shatter and you won’t get it back.
Using Glass Bottles With Honey
You can use a Glass Bottle on a Beehive full of honey to get a Honey Bottle, which is a great healing item. As a consumable, if you drink a Honey Bottle, it will restore 3 hunger icons and also get rid of the poison status condition. You can also use 1 Honey Bottle to make 3 Sugar, which means you can use it as another way to get this resource instead of making a Sugar Cane farm. Furthermore, if you place 4 Honey Bottles onto a Crafting Table in a square, you can make a Honey Block.
Alternatively, you can use 4 Glass Bottles with a Honey Block to create 4 Honey Bottles. To do so, place the 4 Glass Bottles in a square and then place the Honey Block on the right slot of the middle row.
Using Glass Bottles With Dragon’s Breath
This next technique is a bit risky but offers unique potential for potion-makers. If you use a Glass Bottle on the breath attack of the Ender Dragon, you will be able to capture some of it. This will give you a bottle of Dragon’s Breath, which can be used to make Lingering Potions. Lingering Potions are a type of Splash Potion that will leave its effects on the ground for a few seconds. When fighting many mobs at the same time, this can be a great weapon to hurt a lot of them at once. Furthermore, the damage over time caused by the lingering makes these potions more efficient for offense than others.
Trading Glass Bottles With Villagers
The Glass Bottle trades with Villagers will vary a bit depending on which version of Minecraft you are playing. However, if you find the right NPC, you can get a bunch of Emeralds.
