Usually, when you mine blocks underwater, it takes 5 times longer than normal. Wearing a helmet with the Aqua Affinity enchantment removes this debuff and lets you mine at your regular speed.

There is only 1 level of Aqua Affinity, and it works the same on all kinds of helmets, including Turtle Shells worn on your head. This enchantment can be particularly useful for harvesting resources that only appear underwater, like Clay and Sponges.

What Kind of Helmet You Should Enchant With Aqua Affinity

You should enchant either a Turtle Shell or a Diamond Helmet with Aqua Affinity. Turtle Shells naturally come with the Water Breathing effect, which allows you to stay underwater longer. This combined with its great stats makes a Turtle Shell worth enchanting with Aqua Affinity.

Alternatively, another great choice is if you enchant a Diamond Helmet. Diamond Helmets have the best stats out of all helmets, so you can’t go wrong with wearing one.
