Sticks are one of the first resources that you need in Minecraft. With them, you can make tools and many other useful items. In addition to making them with Wood Planks, you can find them in a few other ways.

Every Way to Make and Find Sticks
It’s easy for you to make Sticks from even more basic materials. The crafting recipe you’ll likely use the most is with at least 2 Wood Planks. In any kind of crafting grid, place 1 or more Wood Planks on top of another stack of Wood Planks to get Sticks. For every 2 Wood Planks used this way, you will get 4 Sticks.
Alternatively, you can make Sticks from using Bamboo in the same way. However, the crafting ratio isn’t nearly as efficient. For every 2 Bamboo used, you will only get 1 Stick. As such, stick to using Wood Planks to craft Sticks.
Getting Sticks From Leaf Blocks
The most common way to find Sticks naturally is from decayed Leaf blocks. After you cut down a tree for all of its Wood Logs, the Leaf blocks that are left over will slowly despawn over time. When each Leaf block decays this way, there is a 2% chance that they will drop 1 to 2 Sticks. Furthermore, if you manually break Leaf blocks, this drop chance is the same. As such, punching Leaf blocks with your empty hand can be a great way to get some free Sticks.
Finding Sticks as Chest Loot
There are various kinds of Chests in Villages that you can search for Sticks. In Fletcher’s Chests, you have a 55.8% chance of finding 1 to 3 Sticks. Additionally, in Toolsmith’s Chests, you have a 90% chance of finding 1 to 3 Sticks. It is also possible to find 1 to 2 Sticks in Cartographer’s Chests, albeit only in the Java Edition of Minecraft.
Finding Sticks From Fishing and Fighting Witches
While you’re fishing, it’s possible to snag “junk” items instead of actual fish. One such item that can be caught this way is Sticks, albeit rarely. There is a 0.5% chance to catch 1 Stick this way.
Witches can potentially drop Sticks when you defeat them. There is a 25% chance that a Witch will drop up to 2 Sticks this way.
Trading Sticks With Villagers
If you have a ton of Sticks that you don’t know what to do with, you can sell some. Novice-level Fletcher Villagers in the Java Edition have a 66% chance to possess the trade option that lets you sell them 32 Sticks for 1 Emerald. However, in the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, these same kinds of Villagers are guaranteed to have this same trade option.
Everything That You Can Use Sticks for
As a wooden item, Sticks can be used as fuel in a Furnace, however, they have much more important uses. Sticks are needed for many different crafting recipes. They are used in varying amounts for creating different tools and other items. Since they’re used so often, it can be tough to keep track of how many Sticks you need for each recipe they are found in. Here’s a list of all the items that need Sticks to be crafted and how many you’ll need for each.
