Can You Tame a Panda in Minecraft?

No, you cannot tame a Panda in Minecraft. You also cannot forcibly pull a Panda around with a Lead. That said, there are still ways in which you can get Pandas to go where you want them.

How to Attract a Panda

A player holding a piece of Bamboo in order to get a Panda's attention.

Like with a few other animal mobs, you can get a Panda’s attention by holding its favorite food in your hand. In this case, the food item you need is Bamboo. Bamboo grows in most of the same biomes that Pandas are found in:

  • Jungle
  • Bamboo Jungle

A Panda will follow you up to 16 blocks away if you’re holding some Bamboo in your hand. As such, you can lead them around with relative ease. While you can’t tame a Panda, you can at least direct it into some sort of holding pen with this method.

This would allow you to setup up an enclosure or farm for a few Pandas. And this, in turn, would allow you to breed them as needed. Remember that Pandas need Bamboo to enter love mode. If you’re planning on making a Panda farm, be sure to stock up on lots of Bamboo!
